Summer Farm Project

Summer Farm Project

Last summer, we were really excited to be able to run an inclusive farm project for children across Swindon, all thanks to a grant from Social Farms & Gardens

UET Farm offers an inclusive, therapeutic, and educational space for Children and Young People (CYP) with SEND and complex needs. We encourage and support a variety of outdoor learning and nature-based activities around the Farm. All sessions are bespoke and interlink to help students appreciate the valuable part they play in caring for the environment and each other, learn transferable life and social skills and contribute to a positive sense of well- being.

We began to clear the pond area earlier in the year, but receiving the SF&G Grant meant we were able to install a Fire pit, sand area, new edible herb bed to use when firepit cooking and set up some activity boxes. It was a huge success this summer and will continue to be used by school groups through the year.

The summer farm project was a fantastic opportunity for young people across Swindon to experience the farm who wouldn't normally get the chance. The young people had a great time taking part in a range of activities including:

  • Growing in the organic garden and polytunnel
  • Designing and making projects from reclaimed wood in the workshop
  • Cooking with homegrown produce in the cabin
  • Wildlife watching in our pond area
  • Basic Bushcraft skills such as whittling and fire-pit cooking
